gentle chaos

Is this what they describe when they say, “ignorance is bliss?”

Not that flames do not roar,
But that you cannot hear them.
Not that nations do not fall,
But that yours remains upright.
Not that innocence does not perish,
But that when your head meets your pillow at night, you do not hear the child cry for his mother
as the roof he was born under caves in on him.

Chaos is never gentle.
And peace?

I wish I did not fear that ignorance and apathy are necessary to sustain it.

There is a reason our bodies go numb when pain is too great.
